Oil/Tail - page 2

Oil or tail in Ayurveda is used to give the lubricating, soothing, moistening, and calming effects to the body and senses. In Sanskrit, the word oil is called 'sneha'. Sneha is also a word for love and therefore holds a special and important place in the Ayurvedic tradition. The medicated oils are boiled along with the certain drugs as prescribed. These oils have the same properties and efficiency as that of the medicines. It is used generally for injunction and massage purposes. The process of preparing medicated oils includes addition of Kwath, Swaras and Kalka and putting the mixture in a regulated temperature. Ayurveda, a holistic health care system prescribes usage of different medicated oils for application on the body, with or without massage for providing health benefits and to treat specific indications or health conditions. While most of medicated oils are for external usage, there are certain types of medicated oils that are processed with milk and are administered orally also. Oils have been in use for so many years and are still used for various different purposes. Some of the uses of oils are;
