Terminalia chebula : Popularly referred as "Haritaki" in Ayurvedic text books, Haritaki is a legendary drug.
There is a legend that when god Indra was drinking ‘Amrita’ a drop of it fell on earth. From that one drop seven types of haritaki were produced. Haritaki is said to be better than even a mother. It would never hurt the user.
The plant is used extensively in the preparation of many Ayurvedic formulations for infectious diseases. It treats simple constipation; by increasing the frequency of stools and evacuating the bowel completely. Haritaki is a rasayan which has beneficial effects on all the tissues
